My trip to Crater Lake

We visited Crater Lake,  in the month of May 2014 our way back from Seattle. After a long drive (actually Deepak Uncle was driving and I was enjoying back seat driving with on and off cat naps), we decided to take a break in Roseburg town in the state of Oregon . The place where we stayed allowed pets as well. For a moment I was surprised and it took some time for me to realize that even human beings are allowed to stay with their pets!  We also happened to interact with a Harley biker who was moving from Portland to somewhere close to Roseburg.

The drive to Crater Lake was just mind blowing! As we started our drive, we were informed by a local store owner that the North entrance to the Lake was closed.

The winding roads to Crater Lake took us through many waterfalls. We stopped over at  the Tokette and the Watson falls. To view these falls, we had to hike up a few miles. But let me tell you it is worth the effort (I have pictures of these falls for you).

The mobile signals were so weak that we lost our way as the GPS stopped giving us directions. This led us to a dirt track and as we drove through this stretch, I started noticing snow in some places. I was excited and at the same time a bit concerned as well, concerned because what if the road leads to nowhere and we went around in circles. But I had confidence in Deepak Uncle, who correctly judged the direction and we finally reached the main road. From here on as we started approaching Crater Lake, I couldn’t control my excitement because I wanted to run on snow and have some snow fights with my uncle.

Crater Lake is located in state of Oregon.  This lake was formed due to a massive volcanic eruption between 6,000 and 8,000 years ago. This caused the levelling of Mount Manama. The lake partly fills a nearly 2,148-foot (655 m) deep caldera (a large crater in a volcano, caused by a major eruption) that was formed around 7,700 years ago. There are two Islands namely Wizard and Phantom Ship Island. This lake never freezes due to depth of the lake! We were surprised to read that it has frozen only twice, one as recently as 1950s. Some people tried walking on the ice to the Wizard Island only to get back on hearing the rumbling and grinding noise of ice beneath their feet.

Things to see there You can walk around the “rim”and enjoy the beautiful view of the lake from different angles. It is a must to have proper footwear, if you don’t have one, you can ask my mother to share her experience!  However you need not worry as you can rent snow shoes for 15$. You can also have snow fights the way I did with my uncle and father. There is a small gift shop and a restaurant located there as well. The gift shop is good to pick up some souvenirs,  such as  magnets, cups, caps etc.

Crater Lake is a must visit place when you are in the USA!

The French-Italian connection History of the Bentley Cresta MK VI

What this article is about While reading up about the Facel Vega for my previous blog, I came across the Bentley Crest. It is a coach-built car designed by Pininfarina, the famous Italian design house and built-in collaboration with a French company called Facel Vega. This luxury coupe has a French-Italian connection and is a car that holds a lot of history behind it.   The car and its humble beginnings The year is 1946 and most of Europe is coming out of a dark time, the World War II and Hitler’s work. Ford almost built a Mid-engined Corvette rival in 1986? History of the Ford GN34

Ford GT40 crushed the Ferrari at Le Mans in the 60’s but 20 years later it was still Ferraris and Porsches winning the sales with highly profitable sports cars. In the domestic market the Corvette was also a great success though it never offered the same quality or feel as its European rivals. It looked like Ford was just letting go of a great opportunity to grab some profits with their own sports car.  Two design houses that were part of this project  Behind closed curtains Ford's very own Specialty vehicle operations (SVO) decided to work on creating a fast mid-engined sports car that would compete with the other fast European premium sports cars but at the price of a Corvette. The project started in late 1983 with the code name GN34. The project would use resources from around the world with Italian styling, British chassis engineering, European assembly standards and would also boast of the built tough reliability. The full details of this project was never fully revealed until
